Hello, everyone! It's Rowena Banks, and I’m thrilled to share my recent interview on Dreamchasers with the incredible Yaya Diamond. We had an enriching conversation about my journey as an author, my experiences raising adventurous daughters, and my passion for health coaching. Here's a glimpse of our conversation.
Yaya asked when I first knew I wanted to be an author. Interestingly, it wasn't a childhood dream of mine. My love for writing blossomed after college while homeschooling my daughters. The bustling schedule kept me occupied, and I began writing my first book while waiting for my kids during their activities in the beautiful Sierras.
Surviving Sierras: This story revolves around faith, trust, and ingenuity as a mother and her three daughters survive a plane crash in the Sierra Nevadas. It’s a gripping tale of resilience and creativity.
Not Again: In this adventurous sequel, the family faces the ordeal of falling off a cruise ship. They endure the intense tropical heat, using cunning and perseverance to navigate their predicament. It’s a tribute to powerful women and resilience.
My characters feel very real to me because they are based on my daughters' personalities. Each character in my series highlights the unique traits of my three girls, who were always mischievous and adventurous. Writing about their adventures in the Californian foothills was a never-ending source of inspiration.
I believe in giving children freedom within a safe environment. My daughters had the liberty to explore but were always in a secure space, accompanied by their trusty dog. It's critical to let children explore their boundaries, develop self-confidence, and rely on one another.
For those looking to write, just start! Don’t worry about structure initially. When you write down your story, the details will begin to come together as you read it again. It all comes down to writing down your ideas and honing them gradually.
Besides writing, I’m also a certified health coach. I love teaching people about nutrition and how proper eating can help manage or prevent certain health conditions. It’s a concept I’m passionate about sharing.
